Read two charts with synastry

Synastry compares one person’s planets and angles with the other person’s chart. Start with a specific contact, then keep its direction, exact degrees and house setting visible.

Person 1’s planet appears first. Sun–Moon and Moon–Sun bring identity and emotional needs together in different roles. The aspect matrix keeps both directions separate.

Aspect angles and orbs

Conjunction: 0° · default orb 8°
The two themes occupy the same part of the zodiac. Read their combination together; the planets determine whether the emphasis feels familiar, demanding or both.
Sextile: 60° · default orb 4°
The themes are linked by a sixty-degree relationship. The traditional reading emphasizes opportunities that become useful through participation and practice.
Square: 90° · default orb 6°
The ninety-degree relationship brings two themes into friction. Compare their different priorities and agree on a way to make room for both.
Trine: 120° · default orb 6°
The one-hundred-and-twenty-degree relationship connects themes through a common element. The reading emphasizes ease and familiar expression; discuss how to keep that ease active.
Quincunx: 150° · default orb 3°
The one-hundred-and-fifty-degree relationship joins signs with different elements and modes. The reading emphasizes adjustment of habits, timing and expectations.
Opposition: 180° · default orb 8°
The themes face one another across the zodiac. The traditional reading emphasizes two poles of one relationship: recognition, contrast and the work of finding a workable balance.
Semisextile: 30° · default orb 2°
The thirty-degree relationship joins neighboring signs. The reading compares small differences in priorities rather than assuming the same way of doing things.

Orb is the distance from the exact aspect angle. For example, a separation of88° has a2° orb from a square. The calculator’s orb scale changes each listed allowance; its exact degrees can cross a sign boundary.

Find grand trines, T-squares, yods and grand crosses that include planets from both people. Compare declination parallels and contraparallels separately from zodiac longitude.

House overlays in both directions

A planet from one chart falls into a house in the other chart. Person 1’s Venus in Person 2’s seventh house differs from Person 2’s Venus in Person 1’s seventh. Both birth times and locations locate the house frames.

  1. Self and approach · house 1

The planet person meets the house person’s outward style and first response. Compare how each person takes initiative and how that initiative is received.

  2. Resources and values · house 2

The overlay turns attention toward possessions, spending, personal security and what each person values. Discuss gifts, shared costs and the distinction between care and obligation.

  3. Conversation and everyday exchange · house 3

The house person’s daily conversations, learning and local routines become the setting for the planet theme. Compare listening habits and how you make small decisions together.

  4. Home and roots · house 4

The overlay places the planet theme in the house person’s private life, family history and sense of belonging. Talk about privacy, household rhythms and what makes a place feel like home.

  5. Play and creative expression · house 5

The planet theme meets the house person’s pleasure, creative projects and playful attention. Compare how you make space for enjoyment and how you share the spotlight.

  6. Daily work and practical care · house 6

The emphasis falls on ordinary tasks, routines and the division of effort. Make expectations about help, consistency and shared chores explicit.

  7. Partnership and agreements · house 7

The house person encounters the planet through one-to-one relationships and negotiated roles. Compare what each person asks of a partner and how you decide what is fair.

  8. Shared resources and trust · house 8

The overlay highlights jointly held resources, vulnerability and the conditions of sharing. Name boundaries around money, disclosure and decisions that affect both people.

  9. Beliefs and exploration · house 9

The planet theme enters the house person’s wider view of life: learning, travel and personal convictions. Compare how you handle differences in belief while remaining curious.

  10. Public aims and responsibility · house 10

The overlay relates to the house person’s visible commitments and ambitions. Discuss recognition, support and the place of career decisions in shared plans.

  11. Friendship and shared future · house 11

  12. Privacy and unspoken experience · house 12

The house person’s private or less easily expressed experience provides the setting. Leave room for quiet, ask before interpreting silence and make hidden expectations speakable.

Angles, nodes, Lilith and asteroids

The Ascendant and Descendant describe the horizon axis; Midheaven and IC describe the meridian axis. Vertex is the western intersection of the prime vertical and ecliptic. These angles need a known birth clock and place.

Mean north node averages the lunar orbit; true node follows its osculating plane. Black Moon means the lunar apogee: choose mean or instantaneous osculating apogee, often called “true” Black Moon. Asteroid Lilith is the separate body 1181. Juno, Chiron, Eros and Psyche are distinct bodies with their own positions.

“Karmic” and “soulmate” readings use spiritual language about growth, familiarity and significant encounters. Explore node and relationship themes as symbolism alongside the commitments each person actually chooses.
